Metal stamping, also known as pressing is the process of placing a piece of flat sheet metal into a stamping dress where a tool and die surface makes the metal into a net shape.  Stamping includes a variety of processes including punching, blanking, embossing, bending, flanging, and coining. Most often stamped components are made from cold sheet metal but other materials such as polystyrene can be used as well.
